BE PLEASED!

Note:
I shared my previous article - SON OF GOD - with a number of friends and family. My oldest daughter, Anita, replied with the following letter, revised a bit by my own editing. I responded to her letter by that which follows her letter to me. Discourse is useful, I think; and so I include our discourse in this current article. Thank you, Anita, for caring to respond at all.

Hi, Dad!

I was reading your email, the part that said God does not care if we do wrong or not. I kinda disagree, but that's ok. I believe that God wants us to do good, just as he showed us. I believe he wants us to show kindness towards each other. We are all children in God, but the thing about it is it does not always need to make humanly sense. We can all be sons and daughters in God. Jesus came as the son of God so we could relate to him, through a way that we as humans could accept, and not just show up from nowhere - but rather born from Mary, a way we could comprehend. Anyway, that is how I see it.
Glad you are being kept busy, Dad. Keep writing. Tell Nancy hello.

Your Loving Daughter,
Anita

Dear Anita!

Good for you! Your reply to my article, SON OF GOD, tells me you are thinking for yourself - just like ole Dad. I passed where you are now a long time ago, though, my Dear. Earlier in life I saw God as a Personal Individual that I had to please; and so it made sense that my Personal God would expect me to be kind to please "him," but when you take the "personality" out of God - as I did long ago - there is no need for having to "please an outside Personal God." If God is already in you, as I think an Infinite Sacred God must be - then you are left with having to please yourself by being kind. No more having to attain an "attaboy" from without, as it were - only having to find peace from within by realizing that God is within. How easy, Huh?

To tell you the truth, My Lovely Daughter, I once thought as you do now. Many - if not most - are still there. God is still a "he" that is outside of them - and not a "Presence" that is IN all. Most think they have to please a God outside of them - rather than "be pleased" with the very Gift of Life.

Well, it's a way to go; and that's alright. It is not so bad to think you have "to please" someone else rather than "be pleased," but having been in both places in life, it is a whole lot easier, I think - and better too - to be pleased than to please, know what I mean? You can never know if you are pleasing another - if that is your standard - but you can know if you are being pleased. Right?

But, Dear One, keep thinking for yourself - and find your own peace the way you want. OK?

Thanks for your letter, Anita - and thanks for caring!

Gently,

Dad
