Looking at civilization in general, current civilization has a problem that previous civilizations have not had - OVERPOPULATION; however, there are many among us that simply think that is not relevant.  They think that Past Programs dealing with employment of members of civilization should also do just fine for the present.  Thus, they take the approach that if it was enough for Grandpa, it must also be good enough for the grandchildren.

So, those who think the past has been so wonderful for Grandpa insist on holding onto programs that were designed to make Grandpa successful; but it does not work that way.  Grandpa lived in a time when a civilization was "developing" and in a time when there was plenty of work to satisfy everyone.  But with Overpopulation, the work load has dwindled, even as the need for employment has not.  So, it does not work to claim that what was good enough for Grandpa is also good enough for his grandchildren - simply because the times and conditions of the world have changed.

Many of the so called "Conservative" ranks argue that Industry will take care of our employment problems if only left alone to do so.  Thus, they argue that "government is the problem" with too many people being out of work.  Their argument: if only Industry is left alone without taxation, it would resolve the problem of underemployment.  If our population numbers were not increasing so dramatically - world wide - that may be so; but given the need for greater employment due to greater populations, and due to the very fact that Industry by itself seeks to cut employment - and often cut wages - to produce a product, the answer to our Overpopulation/Underemployment problems cannot be resolved by a left alone Industry by itself.  In truth, Industry needs help.  If we insist on continuing with overpopulating the world, then we are going to have to develop some new programs to deal with it.

When someone is running for a public office that is intended to make policy for a citizenry, let them answer how they would deal with our Overpopulation/Underemployment problems; and let them not get away with such platitudes that if left alone, Industry will resolve the problems because, in fact, often, Industry is not in it to employ, but un-employ in order to cut expenses as much as it can.  We need people in public office that realize that times have changed and that the problems we face are not the same problems our grandparents faced.  If we acknowledge that - and only if we acknowledge that - can we ever resolve ways to deal with our current problems.  That, I believe.

Currently, in Wyoming, Mike Enzi is one of our senators.  Liz Cheney - daughter of former Vice President, Dick Cheney -  wants to replace Mike Enzi.  I would like to ask Mike Enzi and Liz Cheney and any others who want to be trusted with public office to address our "real problems" - and don't use the argument that what worked for Grandpa must work for his grandchildren - because it just isn't so.  Is it?

Until next time, Adieu!
